At Home, 2021

At Home is a photographic series that explores the intimate lives of people and what their spaces look like. I am interested in capturing emotion, found objects and intimacy. Most of these photographs are paired with accompanying detail images from their home but some stand alone. These photographs function as memories of where people spend the majority of their time. The resulting photographs were made with both digital and analog. I was inspired by Alec Soth’s portraits, specifically the images from his photographic series NIAGARA. I was inspired by the awkwardness that he’s able to capture while simultaneously creating beautiful, intimate portraits. Soth talks about his images as the “aftermath of passion and love” and I believe that my images occupy a similar feeling. These images capture an aftermath of solitude and love for a personal space that was built by them for them.
